Preparing English-Language Learners for New York City Emergencies
“We Are New York: The Storm” ToolkitIn partnership with City University of New York and the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, NYC Citizen Corps produced a 25-minute episode “The Storm” as part of the “We Are New York” series geared towards English-language learners (ELL). The episode, “The Storm,” focuses on emergency preparedness and access to city resources during emergencies. The episode is accompanied by various learning materials for beginner and intermediate English-language learners.

On May 27th, NYC Emergency Management is conducting a training to help expand the City of New York’s capacity to better prepare individuals in using the “We Are New York: The Storm” toolkit. Participants will receive an overview of the series, view “The Storm” episode, and learn how to use the accompanying materials found in the toolkit through various small group activities.

Learning objectives:
*    Educate English-language learners about emergency preparedness;
*    Support community outreach in immigrant communities; and
*    Foster volunteerism

Participants will also receive a free We Are New York: The Storm toolkit (DVD, facilitator guide, study guides, workbooks and more!)
