NEW TIME: Next Meeting, Tuesday August 5, 6:30-8:00 PM

OPEN DISCUSSION: The next BLTRG meeting (8/5, 6:30p,-8pm)will be an open discussion/listening session regarding small business recovery in Brooklyn. Vadim Shiglik, from Empower Sheepshead will open the discussion. This recent editorial describes some of the concerns facing small business owners as they recover from Sandy. NYC Sandy recovery business information can be found here.

Congrats to rebuild member Rebuilding Together NYC  (RTNYC) for another Brooklyn solar lighting installation. On July 26th  RTNYC held a Light it Up program in Gerritsen Beach,and installed 45 security lights with the help of volunteers from Bike & Build. Local and national teamwork gets families into safe housing.

BUILD IT BACK

The Brooklyn Build it Back site is in Coney Island. Call for 646 237-5925 for an appointment Tuesday-Thursday. Many city council members are also hosting hours in their district offices.  A press conference was recently held in Canarsie, cataloguing the recent progress including reimbursements  (now at 500) and construction starts. Video link of the conference is also available at the link above. Build it Back’s construction progress is also now available on tumblr.

MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMS- NO CHARGE ALL NYC

VNSNY – Disaster Distress Response Program. This program will come to you in your home or community for Cognitive Behavior Therapy – Post Disaster Distress (CBT-PD). For information about VNSNY’s Disaster Distress Response Program, call 1-718-888-6955 – See more at the VNSNY website.

Disaster Distress Helpline: Call  1-800-985-5990, press “1” for Sandy specific counselor OR Text: 66746: “TalkWithUs” or “Hablanos”. You can also check out their website, facebook page or follow them on twitter.

MHA – NYC has a new online comprehensive internet-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ciCBT) program in English and Spanish. To access iHelp, visit mha.cobaltcbt.com or call 1-866-793-27665. For more infomation about the program, contact Melany Avrut, MA, Ed.M at 212-614-6349 or via email. Cognitive behavioral therapy with telephone, text, and chat supports will be made available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week free of charge.

CONEY ISLAND

CASE MANAGEMENT AND HOUSING COUNSELING

Referrals to DCMP for case management can be made  to (855) 258-0483. Call CNYCN (646)786-0888 or 311 for free housing counseling for homeowners facing difficulties with mortgage payments.
