As part of National Preparedness Month, come learn how you can help inform your community before, during, and after a disaster using social media. Claire Thomas, the Community Preparedness Officer in FEMA Region II, will present an overview of different social media platforms, how Twitter was used during Hurricane Sandy, and tips for communicating preparedness messaging through social media. Participants will then break into two groups to learn specific skills; those who are new to social media will learn how to create their own Twitter account and more experienced participants will learn about free tools available to increasing their messaging and track results.
