People’s Climate March: This Sunday – “Disruption”

The Brooklyn Long Term Recovery Group is a participating organization with the People’s Climate March. JOIN US.

We have a big month ahead of us. In a matter of weeks, we’ll be in the streets together to tell world leaders to turn decades of climate talk into immediate climate action in what might be the biggest climate march ever.

This weekend, just two weeks ahead of the march, we’re helping launch a brand new film, Disruption, about the science, politics, and movement around climate change. It shows why this moment is so ripe for us to seize with an action like the People’s Climate March.

There are over 200 free screenings planned for this Sunday, so there’s likely a chance to catch it near you — watch the trailer and find a free screening near you here:

Disruption is a fast-paced journey through climate science, politics, solutions, and the stories that define this pivotal point in human history.

On Sunday, we’ll be watching together in living rooms, church basements, and community centers. The movie is less than an hour long, so afterwards you’ll also have time to discuss the next big step for the People’s Climate March.

Click here to watch the trailer and find a screening near you.

READ>>ICC= $ in your pocket
You may be eligible for Increased Cost of Compliance coverage from FEMA. If your home or business is damaged by a flood, you may be required to meet certain building requirements in your community to reduce future flood damage before you repair or rebuild. To help you cover the costs of meeting those requirements, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) includes Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC) coverage for all new and renewed Standard Flood Insurance Policies. Click here for more information.
Temporary Disaster Assistance Program (TDAP) Extended
New York City has extended TDAP eligibility for renters who have already applied to TDAP, were displaced by Sandy and forced to relocate and signed a year or longer lease, and currently pay 40% or more of their income toward rent.  This is open to Build It Back registrants who were previously denied assistance from TDAP because they were no longer considered displaced.  The City has begun reaching out to previous applicants (about 900 tenants) who were originally deemed ineligible. This is NOT open to those who did not apply to TDAP – there are still no plans to reopen r egistration. TDAP or Build It Back applicants with questions regarding their eligibility for expanded TDAP can call Build It Back Customer Service at 212-615-8329 or visit the NYC Recovery website. This is for NYC only.

Department of Finance, Property Lien Sale

DEADLINE May 15th 2014

From NYC: When you don’t pay your property taxes, water charges, and other charges against your property, they may be sold in a tax lien sale. Each year Finance sells tax liens. If your property has unpaid debt that qualifies for the lien sale, we will sell your lien debt (the amount owed) to an authorized buyer. A lien servicing company, on behalf of the buyer, adds more fees and interest to your debt, so it is much better to take care of your debt before we sell the lien. We send you at least four notices before your lien is sold telling you about the sale and advising you to pay your debts so that your property’s lien does not get sold. The last day to pay your debt or enter into a payment agreement is on May 15, 2014. The Lien Sale will take place on May 16, 2014.

NB: NEW MEETING The Brooklyn Long Term Recovery Group recognizes the ongoing concern regarding Mental Health and Spiritual needs of Superstorm Sandy survivors. As we continue our coordinated recovery effort in our borough we wish to reestablish a Mental Health and Spiritual Care committee.
Join us on Monday, May 12, 11am at 1205 Surf Ave, 2nd floor.
Please share this invitation with those in your network who work with or share concern for this essential part of a full recovery.

Thank you to the Shorefront Y for hosting the Brooklyn Long Term Recovery Group.
